Our investigators utilise science and all evidence available to them to determine where, how and why a fire started. As part of that process, it is required to understand the ignition and development of fire to explain the fire spread from the initial ignition point to its ultimate demise. For each fire, we look to determine the area or point of origin, ignition source, initial fuel ignited, the mechanism of ignition, and ultimately the cause.

There is no job too big or too small for us and we approach all our jobs utilising the scientific method in addition to the latest domestic and international industry guides, recommendations and standards. Due to the dynamic nature of fire investigation and forensic science, we aim to continually update our knowledge with up-to-date courses, certifications, conferences and any other relevant qualifications that become available.
Our main focus is to provide clients with the highest quality service in a timely manner while staying cost effective. We pride ourselves on our integrity, independence, and reliability. Our services are utilised by a range of clients including insurance companies, legal professionals, corporates, private individuals, and government departments. We try to cater to all clients who come our way based on their needs, we do not have a ‘one size fits all approach’ and work closely with clients to prepare a scope of work which fits with our client’s specific needs.

A standard origin and cause investigation includes:
• Attendance at the scene of the fire and any other relevant scenes.
• Documentation and examination of each scene with interpretation of the physical damage observed.
• Collection of any relevant items of evidence.
• Compilation of other relevant information, such as witness statements, Police and Fire Brigade reports.
• Laboratory examination of any exhibits collected and analysis of samples collected. External experts such as analytical chemists, electrical engineers and metallurgists may be consulted.
• Compilation of a report detailing all findings and opinions. Reports can be tailored to clients needs, from short summaries to detailed reports compliant with court requirements.

Additional services that can be provided include:
• Desktop reviews where attendance at the scene is not possible or restrictive due to cost or location based on the information available for review.
• Secondary reviews of investigation reports and other supporting documentation previously completed by other investigators.
• Fire research which may involve potentially dangerous products we come across that could lead to a product recall, or just simply trying to better understand fire behaviour related to a case or with the aim of improving the general knowledge in the industry as a whole. Any request for research are assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on the availability of resources required.
• Attendance at court/provision of expert testimony.

The types of investigations include, but are not limited to:
• Structural fires, including residential, commercial and industrial structures.
• Motor vehicle fires ranging from small vehicles to trucks, motor homes and caravans.
• Heavy machinery/plant & equipment fires in a range of industries, such as agricultural, construction and mining.
• Marine fires.

VALUE ADDED SERVICES:
To complement our fire investigation service, our experts are also able to concurrently provide factual investigation and mechanical investigation services. This can reduce the need for a large number of experts needing to be involved, therefore increasing efficiency, timeliness, comprehensiveness and reducing costs significantly.
